RV park phone, answering and AI receptionist resources

The only marketing leak that leaves no trace. Nobody counts the calls that were not answered, which is exactly why it survives.

Campers call more than other customers

Most local businesses have watched phone volume fall for a decade. Campgrounds have not, and the reason is specific.

A camper's real question is usually about fit. Whether a 38-foot fifth wheel gets into site 12. Whether the pull-through has 50 amp. Whether the road in handles a dually with a trailer. Whether two dogs are alright and whether the sites are level.

None of those are answered by a rates page, and getting them wrong means arriving somewhere the rig does not fit. So they call, and they call the parks that answer.

The calls arrive when the office is shut

Trip planning happens in the evening, at weekends, and from the road. That is the same window in which a small park has nobody at the desk.

It is also the window in which a camper is comparing three parks in one sitting. A voicemail left at 7pm on a Sunday competes with two parks that picked up.

The uncomfortable part is that the park never learns which ones it lost. There is no bounce notification for a call that rang out. A season of missed inquiries looks exactly like a season of low demand.

Why we will not quote you a number

This category is saturated with statistics about what a missed call costs a business. You will find confident figures published by companies selling call answering.

We have no source for any of them, and none appears anywhere on this site. Inventing one to make a service look necessary is the kind of thing that makes this whole industry hard to trust.

What can be done instead is measure the park's own numbers, which are knowable. How many calls came in. How many were answered. How many arrived outside office hours. How many left voicemail, and how many of those were called back.

That is a park's real figure rather than an industry average. It is what the missed call calculator and the missed call tracking checklist are built around.

The options, plainly

There are five ways a park can handle calls it cannot personally answer, and each fails differently.

Voicemail is free and captures the least, because most campers comparing parks will not leave one. Forwarding to a mobile works until it interrupts dinner, and it stops when the phone is off. A human answering service covers the hours but rarely knows what a 50 amp pull-through is. Hiring for evening cover is the most capable and by far the most expensive. AI answering covers all the hours and knows the park's details, and it is genuinely worse than a good human at anything unusual.

None of those is a clean win, and the honest comparison is in answering service versus AI receptionist.

Where to start

If nothing is measured yet, start with the missed call tracking checklist and get one month of real numbers. If the phone is answered but inconsistently, the reservation call script makes sure nothing gets forgotten. For the whole picture, read the AI receptionist guide. To have every call answered, that is the AI receptionist service.
