What are missed calls costing your park?
This calculator uses your own call log and shows every assumption it makes. The result is an honest range, not a promise, because the only real number is the one your park measures.
Get the one input that matters
Open your phone system or carrier account and count the calls that rang out or hit voicemail last month. Nearly every provider shows calls received, answered, and missed with timestamps. That count is the only number below that comes from your park; the rest are editable assumptions.
The two assumptions, editable
The defaults are deliberately conservative starting points, not industry statistics. Not every missed call is a booking, and not every answered inquiry books. If your front desk knows better numbers, use them.
Formula: missed calls × booking-inquiry share × booked-if-answered share × booking value. The range comes from running it at both ends of the assumptions.
How to read the result
A range near zero means the phone is not the leak; fix the greeting and move on. A range that covers the cost of answering the phone several times over justifies coverage for nights and weekends. The full measurement method, including separating reservation inquiries from guest-support calls, is in the guide to the calls a campground misses after hours.
One habit makes next month's estimate better than this one: ask every arriving guest how they found the park, and log it. The phone's real share of bookings stops being an assumption.
What answering the phone actually requires
The three coverage options, voicemail, a human answering service, and an AI receptionist, trade off differently on cost shape and campground specifics. The comparison table lives in the same guide. FillMyPark's AI Receptionist is the flat-monthly version: $349 a month, telephony included, answering in the park's name around the clock.
Where to go from here
This estimate is only as good as the call data behind it. Before spending anything on phone coverage, it is worth getting one month of real numbers.
- Missed call tracking. The eight numbers to record each month, and where to find them in a phone bill or carrier log.
- Answering service versus AI receptionist. Voicemail, forwarding, a human service and AI compared on cost, coverage and what they can actually answer.
- The reservation call script. Everything a booking call has to capture, in the order that keeps a caller comfortable.
- The AI receptionist guide. Including a limitations chapter on where AI answering genuinely falls short.
- The AI receptionist service. Every call answered in the park's name at $349 a month.
